    Statements

The global monsoon (GM) is a global-scale solstitial mode that dominates the annual variation of tropical and sub-tropical precipitation and circulation. The GM domain is defined as the area where the annual range of precipitation (local summer minus winter mean precipitation rate) is greater than 2.5 mm day -1, following on from the definition as in Kitoh et al. (2013). Further details on how the GM is defined, used and related to regional monsoons throughout the Report are provided by WGI AR6 Annex V (IPCC 2021b). (English)
