Definition

A set of spatially varying coefficients obtained by ‘projection’ (regression) of climate variables onto a climate index time series. When the climate index is a principal component, the climate pattern is an eigenvector of the covariance matrix, referred to as an empirical orthogonal function (EOF) in climate science. (English)
